Why do politicians keep saying that Britain and America are similar, especially re: special relationship?
The way of life is completely different. Almost every single aspect between the two countries is a polar opposite. The Americans talk with a different accent than us. Their vocabulary is much different. They spell completely incorrectly. They drive on the other side of the road, and their driving seats are on the other seat. Their drinking age is much higher than ours. Their politics are more conservative than ours. They have no universal healthcare as we do. They have the death penalty. Britain wanted to keep the empire, America did not want Britain to have it. They are not part of the European Union. Their culture is very different. Their mindset is completely different. Many Americans do not even like Britain. They fought against Britain in their revolutionary war. How can Britain and America even seem similar? I feel Britain is much more similar to Canada, which has been a loyal British colony for hundreds of years.
we are more similar than say India or Zimbabwe
