will the big trucking companies hire me with a dui in 05 i wanted to go to company paid training help?
any thing helps
I'm a truck driver. '05 was 4 years ago. If you had a 1 year suspension then it would be 3 years ago. Most companies will consider hiring you if you have the experience and no other incidents and (other than dui) a clean abstract. If you don't have your license yet your chances drop significantly. Some smaller companies are very desperate for drivers and cough up the dough for your insurance to hire you on...which means you get paid less than average so they can pay the extra insurance. For training you? Again, there are some companies out there that will train you. Keep in mind training is not like what you see in advertisements. You might be stuck doing long haul by team driving for 3 months before you officially get your license and get to be alone. Also depends where you are geographically. Up here we have H&R trucking. They pay your training (even though it's not very much to live on or to send back to your wife) but they will hire anyone.
My best advice would be to go to an average size trucking company who are looking for drivers and simply apply and bring them your abstract. I don't know if dui past 3 years will show up on an abstract. But if it doesn't-don't mention it and see what happens. Worst they could do is not hire you. If you live in a small city (under 200,000) you risk the whole trucking industry knowing of your rejection from one company-keep that in mind. Large city - then go all at it.
Last point, you might find it easier to go and get trained at a respectful truck driving training school and then get hired on with a company that hires new drivers. there are companies out there that hire new drivers-how else do new drivers become experience drivers? What is a respectable driving school? Ask another yahoo question-totally different topic. Hope it helped.
