Fatalities in Young Males

Drink driving is an issue all over the world, with nearly half of Australian drivers operating a vehicle the morning after a heavy night, and being still under the influence. But the problem isn't just local to Australia, and this issue is apparent in the USA and the UK too.

Despite risking massive parts of their lives like their licence, hefty fines and the potential for a criminal conviction, forty six percent of drivers are taking to the roads after a bender, believing they are still drunk. According to a study done in Australia, twelve percent of people think it's OK to drink and drive, and although the statistics is dropping, it seems to be acceptable for other distracted behaviours like texting and talking on the phone when driving to be shown.

Mobile phone use when behind the wheel of a car has rocketed twenty percent to fifty percent in the last three years, and with the advent of iphones and other smart phone devices, people are having accidents when fiddling with the dials and changing their songs.

Young people are also three times more likely to display aggressive behaviours like tailgating ( which is up twenty four percent if statistics are anything to go by) and the number of young people who would pull over if they were tired has dropped over half from when the same study was carried out in 2009.

Professor Russell Gruen from The National Trauma Research Institute has stated that young drivers are horrible over represented in the fatality statistics that countries all over the world present year on year. Of the injured people admitted to his centre last year, seventy one percent fell into the same category; young males under twenty four years old.

"Every injured young driver brings a painful reminder of the fragility of the human body, even when it's young, strong and seemingly immortal," says Gruen. "In a split second, a young person with a promising future can become a road toll statistic."

If you are looking for Car Insurance, UK policies are readily available online and will be far cheaper than anywhere else.
