Drunk Driving Us

Drunk driving ads are becoming both more creative and aggressive
Texas Highway Patrol arrested more than 2,000 drunk drivers over this year's Labor Day Weekend, a time notorious for drunk drivers taking the roads by storm. The number is up from last year despite numerous public awareness campaigns.
May people choose to celebrate the holiday by ingesting copious amounts of alcohol, and, unfortunately, some then choose to get behind the wheel. The Friday before Labor Day is considered to be the second most deadly day of the year after July 4th.
The fact that statistics show that drunk driving arrests have gone up despite the efforts of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Highway Patrol, anti-drunk driving organizations, and manufacturing companies is disturbing.
The Texas Department of Public Safety puts the word out every year to warn potential drunk drivers of the Patrol's crackdown and yet spikes in the offense occur year after year.
Ad campaigns are becoming more and more aggressive, such as the national "Drive sober or get pulled over," and "Drink, drive, go to jail," along with becoming more creative, keeping with the trend of "guerilla advertising." Two years ago, the Texas campaign that created "half and half" cop cars and taxi cabs made strides in reminding drunk drivers of the police presence. Making Taxi cabs reminiscent of cop cars sends the message that the police are out there, ready to punish those who are irresponsible enough to get behind the wheel while drunk.
Both car and alcohol companies are helping discourage drunk driving both domestically and internationally by publishing anti-drunk driving ad campaigns, such as Absolut Vodka's "Absolute End," campaign and Volkswagen's "One is Enough."
According to TxDOT, two Texans are killed every hour in a drunk-driving car accident. More are injured. It is advised that driving between midnight and 3 AM during Holidays or weekends is avoided.
However, if you do become injured by a drunk driver, you may be entitled to a settlement. Texas has a personal injury statute that allows victims of drunk drivers to get compensation for personal injury. Navigating these waters alone, however, often becomes frustrating and stressful.
Insurance companies often offer victims lower settlements than they are entitled to. During a time when the victim may be experiencing stressful medical problems, the pressure put on the victim by insurance companies my become overwhelming. Contacting a El Paso personal injury lawyer can make the process much less frustrating.
