California DWI law conviction help for out of state resident?

I have a close friend in TX that is a resident of AR. In 2006 he was pulled over for suspicion of DWI/DUI in SanFran, CA I believe. He was given a blood test and released shortly thereafter. He was simply told to call in and get results. He did for several days thereafter, and even a few months later but noone had the results and he didn't appear to be showing any red flags anywhere. He therefore goes on with his life, however last month he goes to renew his license in AR and is told there is a hold on it. Well come to find out he is being convicted or has been convicted of DWI in CA and they tell him he has to do jail time. Just a year ago his license was suspended for an unrelated matter in AR, and he got it back after the suspension no problems. Why is this just now happening? Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what he could do. He has no idea who to talk to. Thanks.

I would have your friend contact an attorney from that area. He/she should be able to clear it up, but your friend is most likely looking at some probation. The reason they are talking about jail time could be do to the fact that he never showed up for court, but apparently they never him a notice of a court date. Again, an attorney should be able to clear that up.
