Is it illegal to have alcohol in Canada underaged.?
Ok so i have been goin to a bunch of partys lately. Mostly house partys (im in grade 10) and most of them have alcohol. What my question is is. Is it illegal for a minor to have alcohol on them? like in thier bag or something. One of my friends says he was walkin to a party when a cop drove up to him, the cop found the booze and only asked him to dump it out and let him go. So is there laws against that? whats the penalty/fine. I dont plan on carrying alcohol out in the middle of the street im just curious because i do sometimes take part in the drinking. Thx in advance 
Canada has some fairly lax drinking laws as far as house parties go. The legal drinking age is 18 in some provinces and 19 in others. But, there are also caveats to the law that allow underage teens to drink under parental supervision, also being different for different provinces. And, I think it's pretty cool of a cop to just make an underage person pour out the alcohol instead of busting him.
That happened to me when I turned 18 in California. I though at the time that the minimum age to purchase was 21, but that you could legally drink at 18. I was walking home from work late one night and was drinking a beer from a discreet brown paper bag, when a cop pulled up and asked what I was drinking. I said a beer and he told me it was illegal. But, rather than write me up, he just made me pour it out in the gutter. I appreciated that.
