california dui 2010 will i still need to get a sr22?
I got a DUI in California of 04 its now almost 2010. I want to renew my license but am wondering if i still need to get a sr22 after all these years?
i was only 20 when i got my DUI..
You'll have to call the DMV and ask. I don't know about CA SR-22's but in my state, you have carry the SR-22 continuously without a lapse for 4 years. So if you went 3 1/2 years and then your insurance lapsed you have to start all over again for another 4 years. I've seen people that had a DUI 11 years ago that still have to carry a SR-22.

State court battle throws DUI cases in jeopardy

A judge this week ordered a minutes silence in his courtroom in memory of the two young victims killed in a car crash. Judge Francis Sheridan had just sentenced the man who caused the accident, Jason Hazell to prison for seven and a half years, as the court heard he had ignored his friends requests for him to slow down, as he hammered along at speeds of over one hundred miles per hour. The judge then showed a picture of the battered car, in a bid to give ‘a salutary warning to youngsters who choose to drive like lunatics'.
Laura Smith, aged 20 and Stephen Smith, aged 24 (unrelated) both died at the hands of reckless driver Hazell, after he got behind the wheel after drinking and smoking cannabis in the hours before. Police were unable to establish whether it was this that had caused the crash, but he had lost control of his car and hit the kerb, followed by a lamp post and then a telegraph pole before the car came to a standstill. The driver was banned from driving after two previous convictions, so shouldn't have been driving, and to add to the foreboding, his father had been killed by a drunk driver in the years previous.
Friends of the driver, who also were injured in the accident, said they had begged Hazell to slow down, but he ignored them and turned up the volume as he carried on driving.
The Judge told the convicted: 'You were driving at hugely dangerous speeds. The limit I have heard about was 50mph. You drove sufficiently slowly to get past the safety camera and, after you got past it, you 'floored it', to quote the words of Joseph Luzar. You drove erratically at massive speeds - at 80mph and in excess of 90mph and some witnesses estimate up to 100mph. Your passengers asked you to slow down. Joseph Luzar asked you five times to slow down so your passengers could feel safe. It was about as callous and as cruel as you can get. You ignored the warnings and you have a terrible record. Two very decent members of the public died as a result of your showing off.'
They were being driven back from a nightclub, and another witness recalled Laura asking him to slow down, and then screaming as the car lost control.
Needless to say, Hazell did not have Car Insurance or road tax either.
