Why are Marines helping with DUI checkpoints in California?

Since when did their job become civilian law enforcement? Don't we have laws against things like this?

http://www.duiblog.com/2008/12/16/here-come-the-feds-contd-marines-at-dui-roadblocks/

Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twenty-nine Palms is located IN the "unincorporated" areas of San Bernardino County. THAT is where these DUI checkpoints will be located.

MP's are frequently attached to holiday DUI checkpoints near a base... the civilian cops make the arrest and turn them over to the MP's. Then the military offenders can go to the brig and keep the space open in the "county lock-up".

There are a GREAT number of incidents and accidents out there, and I can see the USMC and CHP working together to reduce this: http://www.29palms.usmc.mil/misc/HWY62%20Brief_files/frame.htm

The Law, The Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C. ยง 1385), has NO prohibition from the Military policing itself !!

"The Uniform Code of Military Justice is an exception to the Posse Comitatus Act. The code gives the military the inherent right to maintain good order and discipline over its personnel through law enforcement activity, prosecution, and punishment. As such, the code gives the military jurisdiction to enforce both military and civilian laws against its own military personnel."
